Why bother to report wildlife sightings?
In South East Queensland especially there has been - and continues to be - a huge influx of people.
Australia's wildlife is threatened by many natural changes. These usually take place over long periods of time. However actions of humans can have a more sudden effect on wildlife and lead to extinctions if continued. These threatening actions include:
Habitat destruction and change
Clearing of an animal's natural ‘home' - its habitat - is the greatest threat to its survival. Habitats can also be changed by fire, stock, soil compacting, road widening and dam building.
Our first South East Queensland Koala Alliance video is ‘in the can’ and can be viewed at this link here.

A group of concerned citizens from Logan have been engaged and actively campaigning to protect the Logan River from the first unsustainable proposal by ENERGEX to supply power for goverment's stated future population growth. The group VETO have a website www.veto.org.au which is currently being updated. There have been many sightings of koalas along the proposed power corridors. It would seem the big squeeze is being exerted on all species of the natural environment - animals and plants, microbes and man - to move over for the built environment with its manufactured concrete and steel structures.
The Logan and Albert Conservation Association acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands where we work with others to restore the natural environment.
We pay respect to the Elders, past and present, and extend that respect to other Indigenous Australians.
Our work involves the lands of a number of peoples including Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal , Yugambeh, Kombumerri and Quandamooka peoples.
The Logan and Albert Conservation Association embraces the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, identity and knowledge.
Here is the first draft of the SEQ Regional Plan Survey. It only allows for 10 questions - more questions requires a subscription. $20.00 per month or $200 per year and i assume that is $US.
